I didn’t really enjoy the novel as I found numerous parts of the story unrealistic and therefore I could not really connect with the characters or the story. I really struggeled with the intense love June felt for her Uncle.
The story has some thought provoking qualities though and the focus on Aids and the fear and discrimination people suffered when it gained widespread notoriety is well documented in this novel.
I understand that this book has got rave reviews and friends of mine have really enjoyed it but it is not my type of novel and therefore this review is based on how I related or enjoyed the story and that is how I rate the books I read.
